I GOT MY ORDERS

I got my official military orders this morning and I've been having difficulty supressing the urge to whistle "We're in the Army Now" all day!

Less than a week until liftoff! I've got clothes laid out all over my room, lists, piles, and more lists and piles. I got stamps and cash yesterday. I called my primary care doc for a prescription to Ambian because I want to be able to sleep when it's time to sleep and function when I need to function, and I'd rather not take the chance on nature because I don't want to miss a minute of this! All the apparel and footwear have shipped to the staff, and everyone's thrilled with the uniform. We will look very sharp! I've been communicating with Zach and Christian from Catch Penny and they seem like super cool guys. This trip is going to be amazing on many many levels!

The Warrior Tours

I am honored, humbled and totally jazzed to have been given the opportunity to travel to Iraq to visit 7 American military bases with The Warrior Tours. Armed Forces Entertainment is hosting us to bring a rock concert and running event to the bases. The crew going consists of the band, Catch Penny , AFE's Entertainers of the year and Frank Shorter, 1972 Olympic Marathon winner, Dr. Sandra Magnus, NASA astronaut, Bart Yasso , THE Mayor of running and Chief Running Officer at Runner's World, and Rob Powers, America's voice of running!....oh, and me, the gal who was featured on the front page of the San Diego Union-Tribune on May 30, 2009 for her 2008 running of the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon as Elvis. Needless to say, I'm feeling a bit unremarkable in such company, but I bet they can't tell the Wide Mouth Frog joke like I can, and if we meet up with a sea lion, I'll know how to train it to open it's mouth so we can brush it's teeth! I bring my own set of unique skills to the table!

We leave on Monday, July 6, and fly into Kuwait. We will then proceed to Iraq on Military aircraft. (I GET TO RIDE IN A CHOPPER!!! And I get to wear Kevlar. I look AWESOME in Kevlar!) We'll be headed back around the 16th, but my international adventure does not end there. The running product development team happens to be in London from the 16th to the 19th, so I'll split up my trip home with a stop in London to travel some sports retail and run a few races. Big fun!

So check back here for updates. I'm going to be keeping this blog as much for my own memory as to keep all of you fabulous people informed of the adventure. It's a HUGE honor, and it's a once in a lifetime experience.
